Lifelettering: Life in Letters
LIFELETTERING is Lisianne Chan, is a self taught 16 year old artist residing in Singapore.
Lisianne discovered brush lettering at 12 years old and starting teaching herself by looking at Instagram posts and watching Youtube. Her interest quickly led her to discover the beautiful world of graphic design, typography, lettering and calligraphy and so LIFELETTERING was created in 2017.
Since then, she has created custom lettering instalments for events, sold art prints and more. She started painting large scale typographic murals in 2018, her largest to date being 35 metres long. She can be recognised by her bold hand lettering style and hand drawn typography.
The above mural was painted by Lisianne - "It was for a youth centre so I wanted to encapsulate the playfulness and fun of the youth that hung out there, so I choose to do a light hearted spray paint mural with lots of doodles."
Lisianne's artwork was also showcased in Asia's Best Calligraphers & Artists Showcase Singapore (ABCASS) 2019. Participants were instructed to write “Calligraphy and Hand Lettering Rocks” in their own style. For Lisianne, "I thought it would be interesting to make it bold with a glitch effect even though it is fully hand painted on paper."
She especially hopes to inspire more youth to keep creating as she shares her love for letters.
